I’m Matt Hazelet; founder of Hazelet Financial Counseling.  This company was created for people of all walks of life; struggling single parents, young adults, and working class families with more bills than money.  Whether you are in a crisis situation or doing ok but want to do better- Hazelet Financial Counseling is for you!

We do not pay your bills for you or consolidate your debt.  You signed up for the debt; it’s your job to pay your bills.  However, we recognize that piling up debt is not hard to do, and it’s not easy to get out.  We’re here to coach you through the hard times using proven money management principals.  We teach an amazing, mind-blowing concept: Living on less than you make!  It’s a crazy concept in a culture where the savings rate is hovering around -2 percent!  At Hazelet Financial Counseling we teach you to spend, save, and give.  Sound impossible?  By developing a clear plan on paper, we’ll teach you how to make your money go further so you have the ability to save and give.  It won’t be fast, and it won’t be easy but it will work!

After graduating from the University of Wyoming in 2005, I began my career at High Plains Community Church in Gillette, Wyoming as the full-time music director.  Feeling led into a different direction, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee and worked for Dave Ramsey’s LIVE events department.  (Dave Ramsey is the host of a nationally syndicated radio show, best-selling author, and has recently been named a host on the Fox Business Network.)  It was there I found my passion for helping people understand their finances.  After my time in Nashville I felt led to move back to Wyoming and start helping people here.  I currently reside in Gillette Wyoming, and provide services to people across Wyoming, and phone counseling anywhere in the country!

Basics at a glance:

• I’m a Christian and that means I teach you to handle your finances with integrity.  I don’t push my religion on you but my advice is rooted in Biblical principals.

• I don’t believe that debt is a tool to get rich.  I’m always striving to see people be debt free!  (yes, even the house!)

• Stuff doesn’t equal happiness.
 
• Buy only Term life insurance and invest in mutual funds with long track records.
 
• Don’t try to get rich quick.  The fastest way to get rich quick is to take 20 years to do it!

• Give!  It’s good for everyone involved- especially you!

• People make mistakes.  Don’t whine about it.  Fix it!  You are the problem, buy you are also the solution!

I’m living proof that these principals work.  It’s possible to graduate from college debt free; I’ve done it.  It’s possible to drive a paid for car; I drive one.  It’s possible to live without credit cards; I don’t own one.  When you don’t have payments making other people rich, you can save, and give!  I’m living proof, and if you want the freedom in your finances that I enjoy, give me a call!
